Located at the strategic intersection of the Aegean coast and Central Anatolia, the An-
cient City of Sardis served as the formidable capital of the Iron Age Lydian Kingdom.
Situated at the foothills of the Tmolus Mountains and overlooking the fertile Hermos
Plain, the city gained historical prominence not only for its defensive acropolis but also
as the birthplace of minted coinage, fueled by the auriferous waters of the Pactolus Riv-
